Jerseys are expensive and I am cheap. It’s not a great combination.

Trying to find the best deals on sports jerseys has meant that I’ve bought fake jerseys (accidentally) several times and been straight-up scammed a couple more times.

In fact, it would have probably been cheaper for me to just stop by FANZZ after leaving a game and buying brand-new jerseys. At least I’d know that they were authentic.

Lucky for us, there’s a new player on the scene where you can be legit jerseys for a fraction of the original cost. Whether you’re looking for a new or used, NBA, NFL, or MLB, you can find a great deal.

What is this magical marketplace?

None other than Poshmark.

Buying Jerseys on Poshmark

After falling victim to eBay scams, I had to find a new place to shop. After eBay, Poshmark is the largest online marketplace that allows users to sell clothes (and only clothes).

Anyone can sign up for a Poshmark account and list whatever clothing or home item they want.

This means that, if you’re fast, you can score some amazing deals before other people do.

That doesn’t mean you can just be trusting and buy whatever you want though.

In general, Poshmark is a safe and legitimate marketplace for sports jerseys. However, there are a significant number of sellers that are selling fake or replica jerseys. Buyers should do their due diligence on the seller to avoid being scammed.

How To Find Authentic Jerseys On Poshmark – 7 Tips

If you’re looking for jerseys from the current season, prepare to see dozens of listings with the same stock pictures from sellers who bought jerseys from China.

Luckily, there are some ways you can ascertain whether or not the jersey you’re looking at is likely to be authentic.

1. Look At The Seller’s Feedback

Buying from an established seller is one of the best ways to make sure that you’re getting authentic products on Poshmark. Check their feedback and make sure they’ve been around for a bit before purchasing anything from them.

Sellers who are selling fake jerseys are constantly making new accounts so they don’t have reviews saying that they jerseys aren’t authentic.

2. Are There Other Things In The Closet?

If someone is offering great deals on tons of jerseys then they probably have some explaining to do. Most sellers of authentic jerseys also sell other types of items. This assures you that their either selling a personal item or that they sell tons of items.

Sourcing and selling nothing but authentic jerseys for cheap prices isn’t a business model that many sellers would choose.

3. Do They Have The Same Jersey In Every Size?

If the seller has multiple sizes of a jersey for sale, it’s much more likely that they are buying them in bulk (and they’re no authentic).

The best deals are often one-off sales.

4. Is The Jersey Used or New?

Not only are used jerseys usually a better deal, they’re also more likely to be authentic.

Jerseys that are vintage or unusual in some way also have a greater chance of being legit. Jerseys that sell in mass are often the ones that are imported to be sold.

5. Has The Seller Listed It On Other Platforms?

If you find a great deal on a jersey, see if the seller also has it listed on eBay or Mercari. Since Poshmark fees tend to be higher, it’s possible they’re selling it cheaper in another location.

The other benefit of checking different stores is that each platform has their own way of recognizing fakes. If the listing is live in multiple places it means that it has jumped through more hoops.

6. Send An Offer Or Ask A Question

Interacting with the seller is often a good way to find out if they are on the up and up.

Sellers of fakes who are directly asked if the items are authentic will usually ignore or delete the question. If the seller is able to respond to questions about where/when they bought it or why they are selling it you’re probably dealing with a respectable person.

7. Inspect Pictures For Signs Of Authenticity

It should go without saying that the first thing you should do is to inspect the pictures and make sure that they jersey looks legit. Poshmark doesn’t actually allow users to sell fakes so many sellers will do all sorts of weird things with their pictures to try and hide what’s going on.

Be sure to check out:

  • Stitching. Authentic jerseys have straight and even stitching without loose threads or crooked seams.
  • Typos. Many fake jerseys have legitimate fakes on the tags so they can avoid getting sued for direct copyright issues.
  • Tags Misaligned. Anything that speaks of production being rushed (or lack of quality control) makes the jersey in question, questionable.
  • Stock Pictures. If all the pictures are stock pictures, ask for pictures of the acutal jersey. If the Poshmark seller cannot provide, avoid!

Remember, you’re likely spending $100+ on a piece of stitched mesh. You should expect quality.

Always trust your gut and remember, if it seems too good to be true, it probably is.

What If You Buy A Fake Jersey On Poshmark?

If you got scammed and someone sent you a jersey that you don’t think it authentic, there are a few things you can do.

All of them, however, require you to be prompt so don’t put off dealing with the issue!

After your Poshmark jersey is delivered, you have three days to contact Poshmark and let them know that the item was misrepresented by the seller. You’ll need to include some pictures and a description of exactly what is wrong with the item.

If they verify your claim, Poshmark will issue you a return label and refund your money.

If you longer than three days to open up a claim, Poshmark will close the sale and pay the seller. After that, you’ll be out of luck.

Conclusion

Long story short, Poshmark is a great place to buy jerseys. While the platform does a fair job of keeping fakes off of the site, you’ll have to do your own due diligence to make sure that you’re not getting taken it.

Trust yourself and, if necessary, take advantage of Poshmarks return policy. Good luck!
