Should You Include Thank You Cards in eBay Orders?

ARE THANK YOU NOTES YOUR BEST DEFENSE AGAINST NEGATIVE FEEDBACK? A few months ago, we received two negative feedback within a week’s time.  Since we aren’t mega high volume sellers, this hugely affected our feedback and, frankly, scared the crap out of us.  All of a sudden we had 99.5% positive feedback – not bad, but not what we wanted.  What was really discouraging is that both negative feedback should have never happened (in my opinion, of course…).  The first one came from a buyer who didn’t read the description (the jacket was tailored) or look at the included measurements.  Of course, the jacket didn’t fit.  Great.  The second came from an honest oversight on our part.  The jacket was missing a button, which was apparently very offensive to the buyer.  A full refund didn’t spare us from her feedback. The truth is: If you have 100% feedback, you are lucky enough to have not …

Selling More on eBay: Writing Better Titles

Like it or not, being a eBay seller makes you a salesman (or woman).  If also makes you a CEO and marketing director.  It is your job to help people find your product, and then convince them that they need it.  A great title is one of the major deciding factors for whether or not your product sells.  Unlike browsing through the racks at the mall, people rarely just stumble upon your products on eBay.  The way that people find your products is by using the search bar and filters.  If you have a crappy title, you’ll get fewer people who see your listing, and even fewer of those people who actually click on it. Before we perfected our titles, our click through rate was around 1%.  that means, for every 100 people that saw our listings in search results, only 1 would click through and actually read the listing.  A good click through rate …

How to Sell Used Clothes on eBay For Profit

When my wife and I were newly married, she committed a serious relationship faux pas…she talked to me about one of her past loves all the time! About all the time they had spent together, the wonderful gifts she still had (she even got her favorite jacket from this past love of hers), and how much her family supported her relationship. Eventually she introduced us…and that’s how my own personal love affair with thrift stores was started! I was wandering down the aisles a few weeks later and found a beautiful fleece jacket from The North Face.  I had been in the market for the exact same jacket for months, but they were just out of my price range – and here was one in my hands for the sweet price of only $6!! But of course, it was 2 sizes too small! It was such a good deal, however, that I just couldn’t put …

The Definitive Guide to Handling Returns on eBay as a Seller

Judging by the number questions we get on the subject (and the questions clogging up every eBay seller Facebook page) returns are one of the scariest and most difficult things for a new seller to deal with.  We ourselves have had several “oh crap”moments with returns, including a return for a $300 item after we had already spent the money.  Along with honest buyers simply wanting their money back, we have been the victims of several scam attempts.  These difficult returns and scam attempts are on top of the half dozen returns we deal with a month which go off without a hitch. A typical return rate on eBay is about 2%.  As we are totally average in that regard and have had several thousand eBay sales we have become something of experts on the subjects of returns and, trust us, it isn’t hard.  All of our returns fall into 3 different categories and, once …

Sourcing Inventory From eBay

Sometimes we don’t want to thrift.  For as much fun as the hunt can be, grubbing through another rack of clothes or elbowing my way past some neck beards to look at some crappy electronics does get old.  At time like this, we do what every reseller should do, we source product on eBay!  If you’re an eBay seller, finding products to resell on eBay can be both a challenging and fun way of diversifying your sourcing. Sourcing on eBay however is something that requires patience and a bit of technique.  Here’s what we do: we follow several searches on eBay to alert us when people post an item for sale under a certain price. That’s it!  Then eBay does the searching for us 24/7 and lets us know when something to our liking is listed! One of the searches that we follow is for “Wesco Boots” under $60.  Wesco is a valuable brand of firefighting/logging …

How We Organize eBay Inventory

When we first started selling on eBay, we had things stashed in cupboards…then sneaking across the floor, then creeping out of our small extra bedroom.  eBay quickly took over our house and left us having nightmares.  Things were impossible to find when they sold and new inventory had no spot in our house.  Our fire and pride of starting our own business slowly faded away as we started to look more like hoarders than anything.  We finally hit the point where if we wanted to continue to grow our business (and stay sane), we needed a reliable method to store eBay inventory.  While it may not be for everyone, this is what we’ve found to keep our eBay inventory organized!  Let’s break it down into steps so we can better see the journey we have taken thus far: 1. WE RENTED A STORAGE UNIT. One of the nice things about having a normal job is …

6 Things You Can Do To Increase eBay Sales

Everyone I know that sells on eBay ultimately does it for the same reason – to make money.  Whether you do it to declutter your house and help you pay rent (us a year ago) or pay for a trip to Costa Rica (us now), profit is the ultimate goal.  There are dozens of how-to’s explaining how to source things, how to ship things, how to deal with returns etc.; but these things are only dreams to some people because their items just won’t sell!  So let’s talk about 6 things that we’ve learned we need to do to hear that “cha-ching” daily! 1. LIST, LIST, LIST….DAILY Whether or not things sell is largely dictated by Cassini, eBay’s search engine.  Cassini decides what page things are on when people search for them.  Obviously you’re going to have many more sales if you show up on page 1 or 2 instead of page 19.  eBay heavily …

How To Refresh Your eBay RSS Feed

UPDATE: As of JUNE 25TH 2018 there is no longer an option for sellers to refresh their RSS Feed on eBay.  Check out some other ways to increase your eBay sales. Did you know that there is a simple toggle switch that could greatly increase your eBay sales?  If not, that’s our job as an eBay Selling Blog…to help you know how to increase your profits!  So without further ado, let’s talk about what an RSS Feed is, how it can hurt your sales, and what you can do to turn the tables! What is an RSS Feed? Simply put, an RSS Feed is a program which makes sure readers/users get the freshest data possible.  An RSS Feed can both notify readers of new content or, in the case of eBay sales, affect search results so that the newest listings are shown first to potential buyers.  In other words, the older your listings get, the …

How to tell how much an eBay item sold for on Best Offer

Recently my wife and I were wandering around a pawn shop (as we’re wont to do) and we came across an interesting display of plates!  They were extremely beautiful but this beauty came at a steep price, $100 per plate or $500 for the set of six.  Well out came our phones so we could check if anything similar has sold on eBay in the past couple months.  Sure enough!  A similar set of 6 had sold for (what appeared to be) $1,395 plus shipping!  Now did we have $500 sitting around to spend on 6 plates?  No, but if that could be translated into a quick $800 payoff then by George we could do it. Fortunately we didn’t get quite swept up into our self-created hype and put in our due diligence before carrying the plates up to the register.  Check out how we discovered the much less exciting amount the plates actually sold for… Recently …
