Many sellers new to Poshmark spend a bunch of money to create a “home office” and to cute-ify their space. Then they post pictures of it on Instagram.

However, you’re probably from a different mold. You actually want results from your Poshmark store and you’re wondering if a label printer makes sense.

Well, if you sell on Poshmark just to clean out your closet you probably have one of two goals:

  • to make money
  • to make room for new things

If that’s all you want to do on Poshmark then spending hundreds of dollars on a thermal printer for your Poshmark sales probably doesn’t make much sense.

If that’s the boat you’re in, bookmark this page and come back in a year after you’ve caught the Poshmark bug. It’s super contagious.

Most of us (resellers) started off by selling a few items from around our houses on Poshmark, eBay, or Mercari. In our case, it soon became a full-blown business and we started looking for ways to make more money and simplify our growing business.

A thermal shipping label printer for Poshmark was the answer to both of those issues.

If you are already aware of all the advantages that a thermal printer can offer your business, I’ll make this easy for you. We bought a Wireless Rollo Label Printer which you can buy here and read our complete review of, here.

Why Would You Want A Thermal Label Printer For Poshmark?

Simply put, you want a thermal printer for your Poshmark store for the following reasons:

  • It’s faster & easier
  • It’s cheaper (in the long run)
  • It’s more professional

The way that I convinced my wife to finally let me buy a thermal printer was to simply compare it to the alternatives. If you don’t have a printer to print shipping labels then you’re pretty much stuck with the following options:

  • Printing “labels” with a regular printing and taping them on. This route really sucks. Not only does it meant that you’re stuck buying printer ink forever, your labels just aren’t going to look great once you tape them on, especially if you’re shipping clothes in poly mailers.
  • Shipping your items at a carrier. takes time, costs more. On poshmark, they give you a label, you have to have it printed.

Anyways who is serious about selling on Poshmark and starts buying clothing for the express purpose of reselling (check out the best brands to sell on Poshmark) ends up buying a printer sooner rather than later.

Taping labels on just gets old.

What Makes A Great Thermal Printer

In general, thermal printers are pretty clearly split into “good and bad” options.

There are a ton of options on the market that will do the job. Meaning they will print labels.

However, they may give your more problems with dependability, set-up, and longevity.

So let’s take a look at the things that you should be looking for before plunking down your hard-earned dollars for a thermal printer for Poshmark.

Easy Of Set-Up/Use

As a technology delinquent, I always appreciate things that are easy to set up. I guess the real problem might be that I don’t actually read directions or instructions but, either way, I want a thermal printer that is super easy to connect to my computer.

Once it’s set up I want single button printing! I’ve had printers that wouldn’t accept normally sized labels so I had to import every label into Windows Paint and crop it to fit. Not fun.

A good thermal printer is one that makes your shipping process easier rather than giving something else to worry about.

Customer Support

If you want to, you can find a super cheap thermal printer on Amazon. It will probably be from a company you’ve never heard of. While this is fine for some things I wouldn’t recommend this route for something that you’re relying on to run your business.

Instead, stick with a “real” company that has the ability to provide customer support and will still be around in a year or two.

Best case scenario, you buy a printer that is popular enough to have lots of communities online that use it and can help you troubleshoot if necessary.

Build Quality

Build quality is the all-encompassing term I decided on to sum up durability, reliability, longevity, looks, overall feel, etc.

There are many companies (like those no-name versions we mentioned above) that produce low-quality plastic printers with unreplaceable parts. In other words, they’re one-time use. If anything goes wrong you’ll have to throw your printer away and get another.

A quality thermal printer should last for around 500,000 labels before needing any work or maintenance beyond regular cleaning.

We obviously gravitated toward higher-quality options, especially those that we thought gave a disproportionately good value for a decent price.

Compatibility

While not everyone needs to print labels from their phone, a great thermal printer is able to print labels from all kinds of devices across many platforms.

The printer we use easily handles our shipping labels from Poshmark, Mercari, eBay, and any other personal labels we might want. What’s more, I can print from my phone, a tablet, laptop, desktop, etc.

Special Considerations For Poshmark

One of the things that make Poshmark unique is also one of the main reasons that sellers want a thermal printer as soon as possible.

If you sell on Mercari or only ship on eBay then you can get away with buying labels online, printing them with a normal printer, or going to a carrier and shipping your items.

On Poshmark, however, the label is provided for you. You really don’t have much choice in the matter. On the plus side, it does give you a discount, but it also leaves you with no other option but to use that label as Poshmark will be looking for updates and delivery based on the tracking number they provided.

Other than that small nuance, shipping on Poshmark is the same as shipping on any other platform. You can use almost any printer that will print 4×6 labels. Some are just better than others.

Best Label Printer For Poshmark Sellers

Most printers will work for Poshmark. People choose Dymo printers, Zebras, Brothers, and other random brands on Amazon.

The following printers, however, are the ones that I’ve used personally and feel are a great option for most Poshmark sellers.

1. Wireless Rollo – Best Thermal Printer For Poshmark

Rollo printer for Poshmark

The original Rollo printer took the reselling world by storm a couple of years ago. Everyone I knew was buying one and told me that it was the easiest to use, quietest, and fastest thermal printer you can get.

So I bought one.

While I loved it I never loved the fact that I had to have a cord running around my shipping station (which is also a picturing station, cleaning station, etc.)

The release of the wireless Rollo solved all of those issues! It is, in essence, the same as the original Rollo with the addition of wireless printing.

I was able to set it up in less than 5 minutes and it is still working without a hiccup 2 months later.

All things considered, I think the Rollo is the best overall thermal label printer for Poshmark sellers and most other small bussinesses.

2. Rollo

If you want to save a few bucks and don’t think that the wireless feature of the more expensive version of the Rollo is for you, the original Rollo will save you a chunk of change and printer labels exactly the same way.

We did end up buying the Wireless Rollo after using the wired version for more than two years because we thought it was super cool but, honestly, it wasn’t really necessary.

This is the printer we recommend to the majority of people who are looking for a printer that is super easy to use and won’t cause problems anytime soon.

3. Zebra LP 2844 / Dymo

If you are looking for the absolute cheapest label printer for your Poshmark business then you’ll want to get on eBay or Amazon and find a used Zebra LP 2844. While technically discontinued, the LP 2844 has been the workhorse printer of warehouses everywhere for more than 20 years.

They last forever, are easy to fix, relatively easy to set up, and can be had for dirt cheap. Less than $100 can get you totally set up to start printing your Poshmark labels.

There is a drawback, of course. They aren’t as pretty or user-friendly as a Rollo printer. There is no app, no cute lights, and you have to install the drivers yourself.

However, if you’re interested purely in making money then an LP 2844 will do you right. We used one for years before we finally had the money to upgrade to a nicer printer. Not because it printed labels better, just because it was nice.

Do You Need A Thermal Printer (When To Buy One)

Now, the only remaining question, is do you really need a label printer to sell on Poshmark?

If you’re boot-strapping it, you can get by without a printer. While buying a bunch of ink for your regular printer will be more expensive in the long run it can save you money for now.

So, if you’re still building up your closet and only have a hundred or so items for sale, don’t worry about a printer. Your money will be better spent on inventory to resell.

But, when you’re ready to get serious and start growing a full-time reselling business then a thermal printer should be one of your first purchases!
